I would not worry about Micro Seiki air pump. The original pump come in own housing that I still feel a bit noise for my paranoiac taste so, to build an additional sarcophagus around the Micro pumps  or to put the pump in separate room with a remote pump start is a must from my point of view. Irony is that the original Micro Seiki air pump is a regular punch-pull aquarium pump that you might buy for $35 in a local per shop. If you some super rich person then you can go kind and to buy $85 aquarium pump and then flood internet with assurances that your sound got much better. The reality is that if you have the original pump then it is 35-40 years old and it might worth to replace it – the newer might be quieter. Anyhow, I would not even consider the condition of air pump for this TT as some kind of factor. If the original good one then you can use it, if not then you can trash it and make a new one. To make a box where the air pump will sit will cost you more then to buy a new air pump. You can go creative and make a very silent enclosure around the air pump, the way how I did, and it will allow you to position the pump anywhere you want.
