Robin, thanks for a very interesting thread. While it is really not so amazing to think of Music in these terms, it goes to show us, the unwashed masses, that no matter how closely we listen, there is always more to be heard, including these very bases of Sound. I am looking forward to re-listening to Casals' partitas with your notes in mind. While I never tried to "frame" Casals' rendition, I have up to now put his "signature" down mostly to bowing, inflection and intonation. Not being blessed with perfect pitch, I will have to maintain a degree of "tonal vigilance" to hear this aspect of Casals' performance.
