Adrian, one might go further with your music/liqueur/country notion; after all, what could be more archetypally Russian than to swallow a bottle of Stoli or two, followed by the vague contemplation of suicide to Tchaikovsky's No.6 "Pathetique"? For that matter, that somewhat bizarre absinthe mindset is wonderfully synonymous with Debussy, and Elgar harmonizes very nicely indeed with Tanqueray & tonic and the wearing of tweed sports coats:-)
