The question I ask is a bit more loader than what appears at surface. When people who do not know me ask me what I do I say that I involved into (or practice) High End Audio but saying it I feel that myself I have different definition than it commonly attributed to term High-End Audio.

Wikipedia dive a good definition of High-end audio: term used to describe a class of consumer home audio equipment marketed to audio enthusiasts on the basis of high price or quality, and esoteric or novel sound reproduction technologies. High-end audio can refer simply to the price, to the build quality of the components, or to the subjective or objective quality of sound reproduction. Agree or disagree I with this definition but I think this is the most common and wildly understood definition of High-end audio. Then there is a beauty of being me.

You see, discovering new languages and learning definitions, sometimes and particularly with age, I feel more comfortable to grand to some word and phrases the definitions that I would like them to be but not what is commonly understood. It makes sometimes communication not as smooth but I do not care too much. The very same with term High-End Audio.

The definition of High-End from one sided implies the highest layer of consumption scale. The High-End watches, the High-End cars, the High-End food, the High-End boats…. etc etc etc… this all understandable. However, how about the High-End time measuring, the High-End driving, the High-End cooking, the High-End boating…. You see all that we did was converted the nouns as product into nouns as activity and suddenly the whole concept of product as a “thing” get evaporated.  So, why mentioning audio we imply the “things”. To me Audio is not as array of “things”, the elements but rather a name of the field.

So, when we are taking about let say High-End time measuring then we do not imply expensive watches but rather very evolved objectives in order to measure tame intervals. It for sure might imply very expensive watches and super sophisticated time measurements techniques but the most important it would imply much evolved measurement objectives and time measurement conditions. 

I think the very same with audio. The High-End Audio in my world imply not just Audio (that itself has meaning of proper sound reproduction) but High-End have an added value to audio. The difference between Audio and High-End Audio I think is in objectives. Audio is about high fidelity of sound reproduction. High-End audio is about using audio as expressive tool in order not just reproduce sound but to use the audio tools creatively in order to add value to sound reproduction. For sure most of the people should not get but as in most of other subjects I do not bother me too much. 

So, to me the High-End Audio is in a way Authored Audio, or Audio where personality and creativity of the audio practitioner is being exposed via audio methods.  For sure most of audio Morons would not agree as in their world audio has no personality and no creativity. They clean RCA contacts and wash record and they feel that they practice High-End Audio. Well, there is a reason why I call them Morons…
