Hi Thorsten,
Interesting preamp ideas.
The Silvaweld is also using some rather interesting ideas. For
example, the power supply is all tube (ie. rectrifier and regulator)
with a large choke as well for filtering and using a 300b as the high
voltage regulator. I think this is due to the rather high current
draw from the 4 WE 417a tubes that it uses (2 per channel as the design
is fully balanced). In addition it has two 6922 tubes (1 per
channel). I am not certain the circuit topology but the main gain
stage is SRPP I believe. The 6922s are either another SRPP stage or
they are a cathode follower but I am not sure which. THere
is no feedback and of course as we discussed it is transformer coupled
in and out if using the unbalanced inputs. I wish I could be more
detailed for you but I don't have a schematic. All wiring inside
is solid silver in teflon. The attenuators are in house designed
31 step jobbies also pure silver.
My understanding is that used properly the 417a is really a tube of choice for preamps.
