Yeah that is definitely something to watch out for. The one I bought has 2 LED's one for "+" and one for "-". I suspect those are to indicate ion balance is within spec. The people at my company that check for ESD on lab benches are very very obsessive about it so I think any lab grade de-ionizer is going to have some built in check for something as blatant as an imbalance. It would potentially ruin a lot of components if one of these things failed without any indication.
