One of my first favourite classical pieces was Beethoven's fifth symphony. It was a recording by da great Von K. (Karajan) for Deutsche Grammophon. After all these years, it is still one of my favourite pieces. It is strange isn't it, a piece of music that has been performed many, many times, a piece that I know by heart, but each time I listen to it it gives me goosebumbs. Another favourite recording I listened to when I was young, was an EMI recording of the Grieg Peer Gynt Suite and Norvegian Dances by Sir John Barbirolli and the HallĂ© Orchestra.
I think you should give it time when you start listening to classical music. It needs time because it is a more evolved form of music than the regular pop music. It has a more complex harmonic and melodic structure, which is more satisfying at the end.
Just don't forget that most of the music nowardays is based on a very simple harmonic structure, mainly tonic-dominant-tonic. With this knowledge one realizes that classical music is not "primitive" in comparison with today's Western pop music, although it is centuries old. In contrary, it is lightyears ahead in terms of harmonic and melodic structure.
