I have to admit that I hate the Altec 604 in the same way I hate a few similar drivers other companies made in the same topology. Jean Hiraga made a loudspeaker around Altec 604, I have no idea how it sounds. People who read my site know that I disgust numerous of Audio Morons™ who just with the zeal of religions stupidity blindly worship vintage audio elements without any sensible respect or discrimination to the actual Sonics results. There are big differences however between the idiotically-ecstatic leaking a rusty resistor juts because it was made during the years when your grandmother was virgin and using SOME of very narrowly-defined benefits of SOME vintage elements, applying to them the contemporary level of demands and to navigating Sound to the direction what you feel it need to go. It looks like what Jean Hiraga was trying to do was the second one. Good for him. As I said – I never heard the “properly cooked” Altec 604 and I have no idea what Jean Hiraga ended up with but the direction I find might be fruitful.
What alerted and surprised me about Hiraga new speaker was the 6Moon’s articles in July:
http://www.6moons.com/industryfeatures/hiraga/hiraga.html
It was written by Srajan Ebaen and reading it I was amazed that it was very well written much less the Ebaen’s typical empty revolting BS. Srajan Ebaen is in a way an audio version of this stupid Dinosaur who sings “I Love You, You Love Me“. The Srajan’s “thinking” about the audio subjects is like my Cat’s thinking about her last week’s bowel movement. And suddenly, totally out of blue, Srajan come up with a rational and interesting to read article about the Jean Hiraga new speaker. I actually will print it and will read it as in a quite circumstance again – it hardly ever happened before with former Srajan’s “thinking”.
