Reading this,

http://jeremydenk.net/blog/2008/10/22/an-interview-with-sarah-palin/

inspired me to look for a great - or at least intelligible - recording of the Hammerklavier sonata...
and I've made a great discovery in the depths of my hard drive.
Has anyone else heard this performance by Edit Vogel?

Quite extraordinary. And completely devoid of 'great pianism'.
I am not sure if it is commercially available - probably a BBC studio recording. Annoyingly my rip has a cd stutter in the middle of the slow movement - so it must have been on CD at some point...

cheers,

I found one on ebay.
It is a BBC Music Magazine release.
Volume II Number 7:
Beethoven Piano Sonatas Edith Vogel (piano)
in B flat, Op. 106 (Hammerklavier) & in C minor, Op. Ill
Edith Vogel (piano)
Let me know if you want to replace that slow movement.

Thanks for that Mats. Did you buy it? If you did I'd love a rip of the slow movement if you can be bothered. Actually its this slow movement that is the most special playing of the whole disc. Listened 3 times today already..
cheers,
