Hi,

Anyone listening to the new release of beethoven cycles by Anima Eterna organised by Jos van Immerseel (ZigZag productions ZZT080402.6 distributed by Harmonia Mundi)?

Really passionate small group. What is nice is overall balance and quality of musicians in group, only six violins but six very good violins, etc..  What I especially appreciate is the very dark moody quality of the performances. The opening of the 4th is quite intriguing to me with this interpretation for example. Sure they will not replace the giants of the historic repetoire but I would certainly pay to hear these guys if/when they are next in Paris of Lyon to play Beethoven symphony whereas there are not many other groups I can say that for currently.

Lastly the sound on the bottom of the orchestra on these recordings have pushed me ever closer to finally paying up for a decent midbass solution...

Is it the band?

It looks like they plays some large music well and they are not only “passionate small group”. Did you come across their web site with their concert schedule?  I am under impression that they are not a perm bad but a collection of the free-lancers, as it became fashionable in Europe.

Yes that is the group, I have not heard anything else that they have done.  I believe they are freelancers, which is why the players are all so good 8-) .   If you can get a copy of Jos Vam Immerseel playing Beethoven's Bagatelles you will not be disappointed, guaranteed romy.
