It looks like JBL Jumped into the beryllium wagon with their new DD66000. It is $60K it is sexy look but frankly speaking I do not see anything stimulating/interesting  in them beside a nice industrial design.

What I do find interesting in them is the new JBL drivers, particularly the compression driver. Did anyone head them?

It has the aluminum diaphragm rather than beryllium.

The demo music sounded very nice. Effortless and beautiful.
The midrange tended to spit and shout a bit though, like an angry Donald Duck.
My guess and hope is that it had to do with the big rectangular thing in front of the driver.

Refurbished used ones go for peanuts on eBay if you'd like to play with a pair.

A visitor of my site pointed out that the guys at AudioHeritage site have heard this new DD66000 speaker.

I do not read generally the AudioHeritage site as I found that the guys in there more precipitated with devotion to labels and to brands then with interest to Sound. Therefore I personally care less also about their subjective assessment of the DD66000’s sound. Frankly speaking juts looking at what JBL did in there is undoubtedly indicates how the DD66000’s  will sounds. However, the AudioHeritage in this thread has a lot of information for whoever cares, including the JBL’s new 476Be driver.

I never have seen or hear this 476Be driver and I have no idea what it is. It has 1.5” hole, the identical to Vitavox S2 and I would be able to stick it right into my horn if someone will send me one 476Be to try. I have concerns thought. I red what that JBL and Don McRitchie Said about the 476Be driver and I have “issues” what that they say. I do not see any needs for MF driver to go all the way up; in fact it would be bad and unnecessary in 300Hz channel.  They “can't say enough” good things about the 476Be driver but all good that they say have to do with “details”. Ironically the “details” is not where I have problem with MF drivers for horns. To get more details is too simple and too primitive to take it seriously. The “more details” are good ONLY in reference to few “other thing” that Don McRitchie and JBL “forget” to mention.

Also, neither Don McRitchie nor JBL ever mention anything about “Absolute tone” of the 476Be driver. It is very sad as this would be the very first thing that I would care…

I heard the Everests recently at the Munich Hi End show, unfortunately they were being used in an active vs passive display/dem , you could tell when the Everests were playing as the active speakers had a sound like an inflated balloon being rubbed with a wet finger, the JBL's sounded ok, bass had a nice loose/immediate feel, but the dem was really too short to be meaningful, the chap demonstrating wouldn't play them for me after the 'display '. Two rear ports, the 'horns'  appear to be more for show than go, nice looking though.

I never heard Everests and I hardly feel that I ever will hear them in a reasonable installation as the people who would use Everests most likely will be the people of “different type”. Still, I wonder if the Everests are the JBL’s 21st century glorified version of the old JBL’s 4435 monitor? The 4435 was a nice twin speaker of the sub $1000 from 70s. I think JBL on 80-90 replaced them with 4355, adding tweeter and MF channel. The point is that it would be fun to learn how the Everests sound would stand against the 4435/4355’s Sound – not to learn about the speaker but to see in with direction the JBL Sound moves…
