I got an email requesting to record a reaction to a horn installation by Joe. I do not know who Joe is and never hurt his playback but I watched the video below and I found it interesting. I certainly will not be recording my "reaction" but I have much to say and analyze about what Joe did. I will post or record a video (which is typically faster)  with my commentary later this week.

Can't wait to hear your commentary, Romy! I saw this video a while back and skipped right to the end, hoping Steve (Guttenberg) would break with his usual approach and record/play some music played with this system. But credit where it's due: Here's a guy who got and held on to a clear enough notion of what he wanted for long enough to bring it to light. Hats off for that! What an incredible project! Given Joe's manufacturing capabilities, patience, and resources, this system might sound just like he wanted it to sound! What that might be, however, remains a mystery. I don't need to listen again to know that nothing was said in terms of Sound or Music, per se. If anyone knows where there's a sound demo, please share. And please don't tell me that YouTube is not a good place to evaluate system sound, as I do know that, anyway.

About 20 years ago Stereophile had a short article about a custom horn speaker system in the San Francisco area funded by a richie rich audiophile. They showed a picture of his system in a warehouse with humongous bass horn speakers far larger than pictured here. Unfortunately I can't remember the issue  number. I did find something similar in Hong Kong: https://www.whatsbestforum.com/threads/giant-custom-horn-systems-how-they-sound-and-issues-with-sonics.25071/post-503916

Some interesting thoughts, Romy. Of course I wonder what Joe was or is aiming at, in the first place. He never did try to get control of the narrative. Is this because he is humble, or is it because Steve was lobbing softballs, asking just the questions Joe wanted to answer and that he wished to explicate? You stopped on the mahogany horns, and this is certainly illustrative of what I am talking about now. I guess I have some stuck sense of methodology, but I would certainly expect more about the relationships betweens parts/constructions and Sound and/or Music when talking about solutions, and since that did not happen I am left wondering what difference does it make how it sounds if Joe has solved all the problems he was concerned with. Joe did mention "Organ Music" in a way that suggested to me Telarc Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, or Thus Spake Zarathustra, but who knows for sure. Again, I would love to hear it on YouTube, if only to know what Joe would choose to play and if he relates to the Music. I think another thing Joe mentioned was DSP on the Big Crown driving his 75 lb/ea ULF drivers. Now there's a place to try servo, like an industrial "shaker"!
