This was written by a retired horn player from the Chicago Symphony (Fritz Reiner period) and deals with intonation as a musical tool and how performers can be fooled. Those that have been "challenged" by a historical performance practice concert may find answers here!

At 2.5 MB it is too big for an attachment at this site.

Rowuk, can you provide an updated, working link?

I will make a new link next week.

This book explains the "sensation" of intonation and what wind players do to create mood. Naturally, intermodulation is crap in audio, but the pleasure of a well managed brass section is glorious...
The file is too big for this site, so I will keep it in my dropbox for a while.

Rowuk,
Thanks for the link, I have zero music theory and this will be most useful for me to study. On a side note, are you the guy who has RH-307 amplifier? If so, may I ask you (maybe off site) for your experience with this amp that I plan to build?
thanks,Gera

Hi Gera, when a section plays a couple of notes, we generate sum and difference tones. With “responsive” and “resonant” musicians, we get a very interesting “Sound” that makes the performance special. This book explains how the intermodulation can be manipulated.
Yes, I have built and use several RH amplifiers including the 307 Super and RH84. Lets get in contact by mail. Robin (at) wukits dot de
