Hi Micro Seiki guys!
From a few months I have RX5000 and of course this is great TT and even more if the platter is damped and upgraded with a proper mat.

Now I have offer from a seller of SX8000I. First I have asked him to send me a short video from a horizontal point of view to see is there bearing or platter wobbling (some of the old TTs have such a problem) before I go personally to check the TT and pick it up. The bearing and the platter looks ok firstly seeing, but because I have no experience with the SX8000I, the air pump seems too noisy!

1. Please watch the video, is that sound normal for the SX8000I air pump? If so, than the air pump must be placed in another room, please share your experience.
2. If this noisy sound from the pump is not normal how to repair it? Is the pump repair possible task, any advices where and how?
Two videos of the 8000I with the pump sound here:

Thank you all! ...and all the cats too ;-)

I would not worry about Micro Seiki air pump. The original pump come in own housing that I still feel a bit noise for my paranoiac taste so, to build an additional sarcophagus around the Micro pumps  or to put the pump in separate room with a remote pump start is a must from my point of view. Irony is that the original Micro Seiki air pump is a regular punch-pull aquarium pump that you might buy for $35 in a local per shop. If you some super rich person then you can go kind and to buy $85 aquarium pump and then flood internet with assurances that your sound got much better. The reality is that if you have the original pump then it is 35-40 years old and it might worth to replace it – the newer might be quieter. Anyhow, I would not even consider the condition of air pump for this TT as some kind of factor. If the original good one then you can use it, if not then you can trash it and make a new one. To make a box where the air pump will sit will cost you more then to buy a new air pump. You can go creative and make a very silent enclosure around the air pump, the way how I did, and it will allow you to position the pump anywhere you want.

If you need a state of the art pump, you can even use a CPAP pump. They are so quiet that your wife can sleep when it is running and the pressure is VERY precisely adjustable. They are available used on ebay for little money.
I also would not worry about the original pump.

Thanks rowuk! I'll for sure check this pump which sounds interesting, currently I dont have wife, but have girlfriends from time to time, but I am sure that Romy's cat will appreciate the CPAP pump highly, because if any mouse decides to visit the Romy's new audio room to pay attention to his speaker cables for an example, the cat will easily hears it and the audio gears will be saved Wink

Wonderworld, there are plenty compressors and pumps out there and some of them are very quite. I have a full size compressor that came with my Vibroplane and that sucker is absolutely silent despite pumping 130psi. There is one important key that you shall not look from your attention: any compressor, blower or pump you decide to employ for this TT must be oil-free. Trist me you do not want accidently to connect a lubricatable pump to Micro's suspension.

Thanks a lot Romy for your useful advices mixed with delicious and sometimes spicy humor which make the meals more tasty ;-)
You are well experienced, let me rise again an old question: well damped/treated RX5000 plater (with for an example SDP of Acoustical Systems: http://www.arche-headshell.de/phono-accessoires/sdp-the-sonically-most-effective-upgrade-for-every-turntable/ )  vs SX8000I stainless platter: will there be a winner? Do you think that the stainless platter of SX8000I needs decoupled platter as SDP or any kind of mat as the original skin made mat of Micro Seiki ? In one of your posts you have written that RX5000 could be sonically better but has some support issues. Would you clear that?

The RX5000 platter is ball bearing and I feel that in some cases if a platter has a direct path to mechanical ground then it is slightly better than suspended platters, would it be oil, magnetic, air or a penicillin sustention. There are two aspects in all of it. When I say "slightly better" then you need to understand that in 99.99999% of all cased that "slightly" might not be materialize as in most cases people playback can't properly handle that "last octave" or people have corrupted by audio reference point about quality in the "last octave". The second factor is to say anything definitively universal in methods that impact the "last octave" is very complicated. So, I would like do not say anything. I feel that if people progress in own perception and expression to the level that they can discriminate between RX5000 and RX8000 or between RX8000 steel and RX8000 bronze, and doing it they do not BS themselves, then they do not need anybody clear for them anything as they do know what they do.

Regarding this SDP devise. I do not know what it is and after reading this stupidly drooling about themselves site I still do not know what it is. Juts reading between the lines I feel that the people who run the site are idiots, not probably are Idiots. They wax poetry about "dozen big Micro Seiki " TTs but in the dozen  of pictures that they have I see no one Micro. The most disgusting to me in all of it are those statements: "sonic performance beyond expectations", "special upgrade for serious audiophiles", "last word in possible sound reproduction", "total immense sonic improvement", "bringing your analog set-up to unheard new heights of performance". Well, I am a seasoned people in audio and my audio experience suggests that the people who make trios comments are idiots. I do not make a judgment about the devise then sell. I do not know what it is. I however, know what the idiots who feel good about themselves assuring me that their toys will bring me to a  "new level of analog sound reproduction", those idiots are not serious people but just mouth running sale-whores

Great idea rowuk! I have checked the Ebay, but here there is new one and not so expensive: https://www.respshop.com/cpap-machines/apex-medical-travel-cpap-machine-p-632.html?osCsid=42b3c7d02c3ca65c2e55d2e576b0ed9c  Thanks again!
