fiogf49gjkf0d Tokyo is no longer the electronics center of the world. But in the Akihabara district, there are still a lot of physical electronics / audio parts shops that DIY people should keep in mind.
These shops are generally mom-and-pop sized and may carry junk from China to exotic (expensive) goods. If one has an audio project on deck it might make sense to fly to Tokyo and source a bunch of parts in an afternoon. Navigating this small area is a bit tricky but everything is in walking distance. One guy from Texas assembled the best English map I have seen & some photos of what to expect. . .

In Akihabara, there are a few audio retail stores including a couple of large retail electronics stores (with a staggering amount of audio inventory) and a few boutique shops.
