fiogf49gjkf0d If you either target exactly the frequencies and amplitudes you're after, or you just happen to get lucky, the "right" silicone can be very effective. My tonearm uses lots (not my design...), and I have used machinery that employed "dash-pots" and directly-applied silicone to very good effect. However, I am talking about "liquid", not the "solid" stuff. The silicone "glue" sticks stuff pretty well, and it is a good hi-temp insulator, but I don't use it for "damping".

N-Set,
When I looked very briefly into the subject, as I was looking for some damping material to use in my tube preamp/phonostage, I contacted Gelmec who were very helpful and professional as a company. They will send you a small selection of samples if you request it.
They have different formulations which will suit different applications and I am sure they have a product that might be quite useful in your application. For turntables, you could try the solution used by Romy (by coincidence I use the same principle but not the Vibraplane he uses) which is air suspension. It might be maintenance heavy, keeping the structure level, but nothing that is too difficult to achieve, even if you were to try to build the contraption yourself. I will send you some pictures of my air suspended platform if you like...
As for the liquid silicone damping Paul is talking about, as in Townshend's turntables, I think this is to use with tonearms. It is something I have been hoping to try someday...
Best regards Rakesh

fiogf49gjkf0d Thanks guys! rakesh, I haven't seen different compounds from Geltec, rather the same material in different forms: bushings, chips, tape etc. I understand your point with the air suspension, but that's not gonna happen now. There are shock absorbing frames for EMT's at fantastic 1500Eu price too... I was rather looking for some damping I can apply localy at various places. I'm curious how this geltec performs, compared to say sorbothane.
Yes, please send the pics!

fiogf49gjkf0d OK, how can this stuff be "universal"? If you de-couple something, then... If you add [soft] mass, like model maker's clay, then...
Sorry to be so dim; I don't get it. Why not just kill a chicken and drizzle the blood?
As for protecting TTs, a good wall-mount shelf can cut bleed-through quite a bit vs. a stand that sits on a "raised" floor. As for tonearms, start with something strudy that features adjustable Si damping. If adding mass to a headshell, consider a dab of model maker's clay.
