Here we go, I will be telling you that I am looking or that I have found the “best” cable to use for bass channel? Sound like a stupid thing to tell you and sound like a stupid thing to read at my site. Still, I will be obnoxious enough to insist exactly in this – to talk about the “best” audio cable for bass. Remeber the difference between obnoxiousness and confidence is only in perception and… in caring about the subject.
So, what would constitute the “best” audio cable? I would not try to define this but I might propose that the best audio cable for bass is the cable that produces better bass. I do not see a lot of people argue with it. However, let to complicate the subject a bit – what would be the best audio cable for bass in context of DSET multi-amping? This is WAY more complex topic.
In audio people so much accustom to make judgment about bass characteristic in context of a full range that a cable that has higher bass amplitude is considered a better cable for bass. However, if you multi-amp then you do not care about bass amplitude at all but care about very different characteristics. It is ironic but those characteristics might be evaluated only in context of full-range but now in you multi-amping you have a chance to impact with your cable the multiple definitions of “best bass” but without affecting the rest of your range.
So, what I learned during my looking for the best bass cable. I have discovered very interesting phenomena: the best bass cables in context of full range are the worst bas cable in context of multi-amping, I do not claim that I tried all high-end cables with my bass. I own however a number of them and some of them are very reputed in full-range bass and expensive. I would like to report that none of them hold ground as dedicated bass cables. In short the best bass cables for full-range are too bass-noisy for dedicated bass amplification. The best audio cables for bass are the cables that are very lean and very bass-shy in full range. Invigorating!
In fact the best cable among all cables that I own that I use for bass and that produce the absolutely best bass for my ULF is a chip plastic molded cable that probably cost $5. Not of the expensive high end cables can even remotely approach the lower notes articulation that my cheap molded cable has. In fact I have a few cheap molded cables, staring from one that come with my Nakamichi CR7 deck 15 years back and ending with cables that come with my TV dish. To me they are all very much the same and they do way more sophisticated ULF then Hi-Fi cables with price a few thousands dollars per a meter.
Do not get me wrong. I am not against expensive cable and I justifiable use plenty of them in my playback. However, it looks like for ULF and even for dedicated lowest octave the High-End cables migh have a lot of room to grow… The Cat
