This record I play a lot lately - insanely gorgeous music and very seriously played music. It is the Eugene Ormandy’s own transcriptions of Bach celebrated toccatas and the passacaglia, along with the Symphony for Double Orchestra. Generally I tend to like the older mono recording of Ormandy with Philadelphia, this one is the later stereos record. It looks like the idiots from Columbia were drunk and did not vandalize this recording too much; thanks to them it is listenable.

I can’t not imagine that it is possible to orchestrate Bach with more wisdom and to preform it with more beauty then what Ormandy did at this recording. This record is a great indication of what “progress” in music is all about.  A 20 minutes of listening of THIS music and THIS play seriously detoxicate and degaussong me from anything that come after, would it be music composition or performing manners…

Good Bach is downright theraputic.   I will always buy more good Bach!

Romy, if you please, what is the number of that album?

Philadelphia has had some good years, and during the Ormandy Period they really used and promoted the idea of their own reputation to make and market a LOT of albums, and of course plenty of them were not good.  I got rid of quite a few the last time I did a purge (so there's plenty of room on the shelves now...).

Best regards,
Paul S

Got today a shipment from Tokyo with the OS-106 record. It is the same Ormandy’s Bach with Philadelphia but pressed but Japan. It sounds even better. To hear it today is even more fun than ever. We have very windy but very warm day today and the New England autumn in it summit with yellow and red  leafs are running across the city like God’s weep. The whole city has rusty feeling, it is very warm and sunny but with very low and dark clouds – it is almost surreal…. The Ormandy’s Bach sound exactly in the same way…

I unfortunately do not have my preamp in house and my phonostage can’t not drive the Super Milq properly (300R it too high output impedance) but it is still a magical sound….

And here is my block of Marlborough street 5 minutes ago….
