It happen that I thought that my old Sony XBR Trinitron TV when sound and I was forced to by a new one. The old TV turner out to be fine and I was stupid to be left with the new one. It is a contemporary LED TV, they say the it is the best. I say that that is a piece of crap and apparently the culture of image in TV industry is at same celebratory state as the culture in sound in audio industry. Hose it is 4: think TV, which is fine for living in Boston’s Back Bay (my former TV was 250 pounds).

Why do I post it here? You right, the Sound. The sound of this LED TV imposable to describe. It is like a whole orchestra was stuffed into a squirrel’s ass the squirrel is trying to sins the thyme in contralto voice. It is absolutely not listenable. A friend of mine told me that no one use those TVs with internal sound and I need external audio. That was not what I wanted to do - find another amp and a set of speakers, but it looks like that with those flat TVs there is no alternatives.

I have to say that I do not care about what they call Home Thither experience. I watch mostly NPR, PBS, History, Discovery, animal channels, some HBO shows and the endless re-ran of my absolutely beloved show – “The Golden Girls”. So, to me the good speaker in TV is perfectly fine – I do not need surrounds, effects, whatever the call “quality” and so on. So, I went to my storage, found an old small amp and then was looking for a small mini-monitor. I was looking some kind of Boiss of Infinity small computer-size mini-monitors but I had none of them. Eventually I found some odd Mini-Monitors.

They were Grundig made and are probably 6”x5”x10”. They are 2-ways, sealed and according to the grill and constriction they are from 70s. You will be surprised but I absolutely fold in love with their sound. They are semi-full range, with phenomenal MF and very surprising upper bass. I so felt in love with them that … I took them apart. They use Grundig drivers and the 4” bass driver in this speaker is very very good. Probably I need to find the Grundig driver like this for MF of my MiniMe.

Does anybody know anything about the Grundig drivers from 70s? I Russian the Grundig radios were popular but I know nothing about the Grundig speakers. …

Curious to know if this guy nails just the pitch, timbre and attack, or maybe it also does dynamics?

I have run across a few car speakers that are simply astounding in a narrow range, provided the going does not get too tough.

Bob Fulton (RIP) found one cheap driver after another that he made to sound great in narrow bands.

What is impedance of this guy?

Good sounding drivers are where you find them.

Good luck finding more with good original surround; but I think you can get the magnets re-charged, if need be.

Best regards,
Paul S
