I speak with people, receiving emails, read others comments here and there and I constantly surprised how the accidentally obtained and unreasonably interpreted data become a wide spared audiophile myths.
For instance there is a strong believe, with which I fight for quite long time, that 6C33C should not be used with fixed bias as it has a “reported instability”. First of all the 6C33C should not be use with any other bias besides the fixed bias because of the PURELY SONIC REASONS. As far as the thermo instability of the plate: well, ….the 6C33C has a secretly build-in testing devise.
This testing devise is testing a generally compatibility of loudspeaker with amplifier and ….the audio-intelligence of a system user. The anode of a not-dead 6C33C goes hot if you overdrive the tube with plate current or with input voltage. Why would you overdrive the tube with a strong input voltage? Because you have insultingly low sensitive speakers! Well, in my language a person who use a low sensitively speaker with SE amplifier should be called a Moron and therefore the built-in 6C33C’s Moronometr begin to alarm the user making the 6C33C’s anodes do red informing the used: “You, retarded, do not use me!!! Get rid of those foolish speakers or buy a SS PP amplifier”
So, the moral of this story is following. The SET amps, contrary to the foolish FRAUDULENT fashion crated by the Audio Industry, do not sound well with sub 100-1003dB speakers (in average rooms) and with sub 12R load. Ironically, but the industry does not offer any properly sounding over 100dB speakers….
So, the guys without having the suitable speakers drive the 6C33C with zillion volts from input trying to get some power out of it but the 6C33C’s Moronometr kikes them out. As the result - the boys dgo for the cathode or automated bias and convert the 6C33C’s sound into a smell of a wet dog….
