Ive heard you mention copper air caps before. Do you have reason to think they would actually make any difference vs alu....

A week passed since I updated my Lavry-924, what a sound! If before the DA924 was just the most advanced and the most interestingly designed multibit with excellent sound then now it is becoming the most advanced and the most interestingly sounding D...

I have reason to suspect that my beloved large Cardas couplers have continued to loose HF past the point I described as "settling". HF is no longer correct but rather attenuated relative to LF, and clarity has begun to suffer, too.I will ask K&...

Do you have your B2's refurbished with new caps? Another place to look are the old Tannoy crossovers....

Allo Romy, Air core caps? Good man! Are they for trimming or the primary RIAA? The way I see RIAA equalisation, there must be some optimum tradeoff between high R and low C (low value caps are always nice) and low R high C. Why do we want low R? A f...

I have film in that position; I actually meant the 1000uf+ caps in the power supply. Hard to get those in film.... ...

It is over 2 weeks as the crossover parts for my Altec 21S modification are sitting in my house. It would be 30 min fix but I still did not do it – juts lazy. I want for how to keep the Altec low path crossover but I the crossover for MF I would like...

The life with FM is great – did not play record for a month or so… I was playing with some other tuners that came across Kenwood L-02T and Mono Scott 310. Both were no good.
Anyhow, the experimental Sansui was running all that time. The “tone” at HF...

I have some ZVN0545A mosfets here for exactly that purpose of replacing cathode followers. You may like to try this starting at 2mA (250V supply, 125k biasing resistor). Did you or Dima try Soviet SSG silver-mica for the first coupler? I am using 0.1...
Hm...If taken outside the context, I'd swear we are talking about some critical cap in a feedback loop.
The reality is that the subject of a cap on primary of transformer is very much in context of my phonocorrector. One o...

"Practically it is horrifying in the very tiny world of lower bass’ tonal and dynamic discrimination. In fact, it was not only there but pretty much everywhere and it always filtered out something."I wonder if it is the reactive components (blo...
OK, everything was fine and I might do into the sonic nuances of the PurePower unit. The PurePower drives a lot of switching nose from output. It has the filters but they help only partially. Adding capacitance to the PureP...

I'am not a big fun of the entire parafeed idea as I feel that it is a way a duplicate of DC blocking but anyhow: if your preamp uses it then what are you problem with that parafeed cap? You were writing about your changing and bypassing different cap...

Anthony, I think you take the right this in a wrong way.
Sure the quality of the coupling caps is important but you truly shall not be worry
about it. Make the amp, get comfortable with it and then change the damn cap.
It is very simple to do and ...

Thanks, jk
I have given a lot of thoughts to this topic lately and have a number of conversations with various people about the subject. A friend of mine from Europe, who is currently at fitness protection program, suggested that:

A site visitor sent me another video of Silbatone from the last show:
Another video of the room playing barbaric music. The only missing part from this video was Joe the Archeologist , naked but wearing a ballet skirt and j...
I realise that this is a very old post, but you might want to take a look over here=>> http://www.valvediy.com/simplexpg1.htmlThe article can be downloaded as PDF, the writer Ari Polisois developped a new kind of transform...

What’s with audiophiles and their fancy, expensive
capacitors, anyway? You might think I have an answer to that question, since I
recently (a couple of months ago) swapped fancy new V-Caps into the output
positions in my K&K phono stage.

Yes, and lucid explanation why parallel caps on AC between neutral and hot affect sound does not exist. To make the things worst I can tell you that you can put 4324 regenerator or transformer of any kind after this cap you still will have no bass. I...

Here is the signal box:The design is double mono past the VR's. Including the bias.
The coupling caps are Arcotronics KP172 from RS-Online, quite prised by Thorsten Loesch. THey are sitting on
sorbothane pads. The air caps are: 1) 365pF some +/- s...
Romy, I did do a fair amount of fishing trying to find a "consumer" source for a matched pair of ElectroCube 950Ds. These puppies may not be expensive but they are "exotic" in their own way because hard to source for average chum...

I decided to make this post in this thread (you are at a second page of the thread) about the “second-type” phonostage. My needs for a Santa’s bring me a nice “second-type” phonostage really got stronger. If you remember my 7788-7721 tow stages,...
You always repeat that you do not listen to the power supply thanks to your "isolating" PS philosophy. This is a super attractive thing worth all the blood, sweat and tears! But then at the same time some disturbing notes come tha...

I will address the low voltage DAC power supply first since it has multiple applications. The front end comprises a commercial 48/12 volt 20 watt dc/dc converter. This basically is used to provide 1000 volt isolation input to output otherwise you...

In the world or audio you
learn new and interesting facts every day.
AC caps (ceramic, electrolytic, polyester and polypropylene metallized foil types) can buzz at various frequencies.
This is not nonsense, and is quite normal behav...
Hi Max,If you have buzzing that is audible outside the PurePower case, or audible from a listening position, the behavior is not normal. The probable source is a capacitor. Caps can hum in the same way as transformers - the fo...

Chris VenHaus comments, "The original production TFTF's are still fine at 600V, including the older, larger values over 0.47 uF (that were subsequently de-rated to 300V for NEW production). It was only when the NEW DuPont Teflon was...

I have huge AMCC800A cores for two such transformersand good winders with HV experience. I also have a lot ofquiality coax cable, good to few kV for the chassis hook-up.Again, if somebody is willing to take care of that, I can lend.I'm myself 3000km ...

I do not exactly comfortable with oxric’s preoccupation with “parts”. Yes, there are some amps that invest a lot of attention into parts quality – the silver winding in Kondo, oil caps in BAT, of silver foil caps in AN might be the examples. Melquiad...

Oh, Romy, I meant the air caps in the corrector loop of course!!!Adjusting PS caps I leave to AA morons and alike.Believe me or not I did go very serious about the proper choke input operation. What I meant is that I have to get hold of a scope to che...
