Those who flow what is going on with my 6-Ch Milq know that for sniggle driver stage I this revision I went what for non-electrolytic capacitors. I use a mandatory for me input choke with 200uF on PS side and then 100R and 100uF on the amps side to g...

[quote user="Antonio J."]Thanks a lot, I've forwarded to him your answers, let's see what he says. I have tried Mundorfs in some critical places in the integrated tube amp I'm using now and they are pretty good, expensive, but not at the level of tho...

I have been contemplating for a week if I need to drain the power caps in my new revision of my power amp. The benefits to live the voltage in there is the cap continue formatting what the amp of off and it minimize the need to break-in or to train t...

[quote user="Paul S"] If Lamm had actually used the larger 950s in my unit I would probably be less curious about it, but for mine he used 10uF 935 couplers with small 950s for bypass (... I assume they are bypass caps...). Hard to imagine 10 uF ...

Paul,
Thanks for pitching the Johnson capacitors. They do not look “large enough” for me. I used in past the following caps:

They have very good size to value ratio. The ironic part that I just called to th...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]Anthony, I think you take the right this in a wrong way.
Sure the quality of the coupling caps is important but you truly shall not be worry
about it. Make the amp, get comfortable with it and then change the damn cap.

Delima was designer of Audiopax, I had Audiopax Model 88 .
Delima believed there is some parameters that affect on amplifier/speaker matching. It's name is timbrelock if you check audiopax website.
I have worked wi...

I would like to offers some thoughts about possible avenues for Pure Power 2000 improvements. Those thoughts are no specific to the recent November-December events and have broader generic implication. I initially intended to write it to Pure Po...

There are many ways to deal with EAR-843PT. To my ears it works wonderfully, this in my case it coupled with Expressive Technologies ET2 transformer that probably takes in totally new league. I kind of so addicted to this transformer that I even run ...

Nice job of keeping R off the ribbon. Like you said, who cares about circuit "damping" there, anyway, given the freaking magnet in that thing versus the 0 weight of the ribbon. I'd say it's "damped enough"...It will be interesting to...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]The wire, the coupling caps, the cathode resistors and many other things are superbly important but it is after the strategic topology is settled. In my view caps, resistor, wire and other things are responsible for the sou...

The "reason" for the copper foil and Teflon film caps is to offer for sale the penultimate fantasy cap, with silver foil and Teflon film being the "ultimate" intellectual destination at this point and the obvious next move "up", if this copper batch ...

Hi Romy,Probably my evaluation methods are still quite moronic, but I think I'm learning to listen to what matters in the music. I had some experiences with a friend using several caps in a preamp he built, and also in the integrated I'm using. I und...

OK, the next step is kind of done. All transformers and chokes are done form “outside” of the amp (under the bulge). I have attached the capacitors and the output transformer to the “inside”. This silicone attachment that for the computer grade...

Pretty clean, Romy (and one hellova tranny at Fundamentals)!Of course, I have questions:I thought you said Vishay metal foils in your earlier response about bias adjustment? If so does that mean steps, or... how, exactly? When you specify "Full" ...

Yes, it is a bit confusing, as I meant to say that it will be a half of capacitance, I said it twice and it looks unclear. Still anybody understands how series capacitance works. BTW, it was a standard practice in before 70, before industry made by-p...

Thanks, Paul.

N-set,actually, as you drew it, it became not too complex amp. What I would like to find is some kind tube like 833 only twin triode. Then it would be possible to have one chassis with a single drive and two output power stages. With 100W on fil...

Dan, it is funny that the Hovland is one of only a few caps I have specifically ruled out for crossovers.I do not like but merely settle for black Solens for larger values, mostly because I just don't like to solder together great wads of smalle...

Thanks Romy. Can you remember what caps you used in the HF filter? They are certainly not standard values and I do have a memory of you trialling air caps.I spent too much time today trying to figure out if I wanted a power switch for these amps and ...

Maybe if you didn't try to pull the caps down so fast. Why the hurry? Maybe a 500 ohm or 5k ohm resistor would be a more kind bleeder. I think the peak current spike is not such a good thing for the capacitor. You are also at ...

yep-- i could tell from the minute i stuck them in they were a no go... the foil is WAY too thick.i've used what i've been able to track down via ebay, and other nefarious means-- so those came in a lot of other lower voltage caps-- all in the 1-200v...

heres a question for the lot of you-due to general lack of many available capacitors in my shop-- i recently mixed both film AND oil caps to pull together a necessary value for a passive crossover. the GOOD of it, is that it takes away some of ...

I tried the V-caps in my system and it changed the sound. This is not a big surprise. Any time you change caps, even to the same cap, it is not broken in and you have been soldering and tinkering with your system, and it needs time to set...
