Oliver, yes I was thinking about it as well. In fact my initial sentiments were that if I will not be able to make my midbass horns on the Triangular Wall then I will place my ULF channels in there. The best location for ULF channels is still a subje...

Romy wrote (in the "It’s mad, mad, mad... electricity." thread):"...I might not have enough power in new room for my woofer towers and it would force to use class A/B SS amp..."You've mentioned on more than one occasion how much you love what you...

I have to disagree with you here. Until you've heard the bass from a JBL Hartsfield, you haven't heard bass. Best bass I've heard period. I'm curious if the Vitavox is of the same caliber. ...

I think I can imagine how a complex, sophisticated presentation can be too "unnecessarily demanding", in lieu of a better phrase, in a long run in family life circumstances. I sometimes suffer similar problems (I imagine others too).

Hi Murat,Personally, I would re-think the tapped horns being physically incorporated with the rest of the system. To start, from what I understand (I don't use a tapped horn) because they use both the front and the rear of the driver for sound, they...
I am using sealed bass arrays of 3 per side. I have six 10" scanspeak woofers in total. I aim to operate them from 38hz to 160hz with qtc 0.707I also have a tapped horn that I am using with my current horn system. It is 244cm's h...

The new bass horns are front loaded, and can be positioned either vertically or horizontally, they are actively driven.Keith....

I understand your recommendation and agree. I need to have upper bass and MF and than see how to merge fundamental channel in between. So, I better postpone experiments with compression drivers and only compare 12" Supravox in two horns: 42Hz 2m long ...
Oh, God, what the measurement microphone does at the mouth
of the horn? Is it where you measure your responses? I hope not. Also, even over the bad sound of YouTube
video it is very clear at the example you provided us t...

I have tried a second filter on the Supravox as per your suggestion. Very interesting, it really has audible effect on the sound even if it is small when I put the filter around 40hz. I will try on 60hz and 80hz and keep on listening. It will take ti...

You may remember that my bass reflex boxes were sitting on top of the carpet. I installed a few days ago, 4 brass spikes under each one, then their foots to sit on, and put them on the sandwich granite bases I made. Bases are 50kg each now!I have als...

Mani, please keep us posted on your impressions of the bass and midbass. They look wonderful! Are they both in the corners of the room ? Could you please give room dimensions with seating position indicated? I would be very interested in hearing mor...
This also
explains the isobaric setup of both drivers. They use a conventional closed rear
cabine. And radiate properly loaded into the horn.
Sorry, I did not understand the loading you
described, I thought it is ...

I guess you have listened to it but when I don't align the separate bass cabinets they fight each other and I get terrible bass....

As I already have written before, I was looking at different bass solutions for frequencies below 110hz with my set-up. As of this weekend I have set-up a new solution and will be evaluating and fine tuning it for the coming days. The new bass sectio...

Audio people are so accustomed with a comfortable believe that as frequency drops the stereo information becomes less important that no one seems question this old believe. The reality is very much do not support this. From what I can observe the st...

This will be very interesting indeed... that is an enormous airgap and will make for a very linear and unstressed hunk of iron. You may wish to apply similar tactics to the power supply (low DCR inductors) if you want to be really surprised...Which r...

I wonder if it is the reactive components (blocking caps etc) that are to blame here, seeing as much of the problem is in the lower bass.Chris, what you said made me to think.

It is interesting: I am running now Zarathustra amp with my woofer towers, line-level crossed at 90Hz with fist order. Everything is very fine bass-wise, with very minute touch of dominating smoothness. To my surprise the typical upper-bass har...

Romy,I make 6 drivers = 95.8 db/W. You get 3db / doubling of the number of drivers ie 88 + 10log10(6 drivers). That's why I'm going with a bunch of Lambda TD15S (which are sort of a cross between the Altecs cone - paper, curved, foam surroun...

Because the smaller the bass driver, the faster it gets...right?So I wonder how Cheney expects to compete with Polk's new 4" "Ultrawoofer" or Carver's new 3" "X-tremewoofer"?I tell you, Romy, this may be a "new" design. I ca...
Romy, perhaps your ScanSpeak arrays are a +/- natural fit for mid-bass? If you used them for that you might also push them down a little until you got your ULF solution. The "nice" thing about this is, you might use something r...
The appendix in the corner of my room (I think it called rotunda) is very cool thing – it is where all my equipment lives – superbly comfortable and I can’t dream for better layout of my listening room. I am not kidding. Ho...
None of these units except the original IDAT improved on my analog bass. Although it was hard to tell about bass harmonics with the music I heard, the original IDAT kicked ass with deep bass and absolute SPL.
Paul, ...

I am in the think through stage of improving my playback. Each loudspeaker currently has 2x 12" woofers in a sealed 80 liter cabinet (Fc-500 Hz). Measured LF extension is more or less flat to 30-35 Hz. Efficiency is close to 100dB/watt. The list...

Paul, as this sensation also happens during performances without "bass pressure" (a solo lute or voice for instance), I am not even sure how to start looking. There is a part of real sound transmitted not processed by the ears, rather over the skin. ...

After fantasizing about an infinite baffle, I calculated what kind of structure I'd have to build (in lieu of an attic/crawlspace) and this is an obvious no-go. A more practical idea is a sealed box with two parallel ScanSpeaks per channel. This ...
Noise in general is reduced and clarity and bass are improved, with no penalty.
Paul, are you sure? I have seen people told it before but I never believe them and it never happen in my experience. The common mode noises r...

I was rushing when I made the last post. Wanted to share a little more about my thought process and how I arrived at doing another large-scale masochistic audio project. Making a bass horn is a huge risk - the results can vary from exceeding expect...

"The top response of the upperbass channel is challenged. I do not know why it is – a wrong driver, a wrong curve in J-horn or wrong made filter… "
That sweep mirrors what I hear - specifically tepid and weak upper bass in the presence region betw...
