A guy enters highway upstream and listening to a traffic radio warning that one car is going upstream yells angrily ..."one ??? you fuc..ng morons ?? .. there are hundreds !!". Over the years I was not able to dig up a single bad review of a Schroed...

Romy, let me step up to the plate and get shot in the foot or what ever. A lot of what you relate is of course right - BUT, 'where the is smoke - there is a fire" as the saying goes. So, there must be a reason for this 'abnormal' notice of honking horn...

And here I've been thinking that this was one of your fixed tenets all along. It makes perfect sense to me, anyway. Can there be any doubt that "difficult" music is mostly unbearable "reproduced" electronically? My daughter used to love...
Romy:you must mean person with Zu Druid. What did he not like about Druid in the end (bass aside)? What did he not like about Altec? What off-the-shelf speaker is he going to try next, or will he throw it all in and stick with Bos...

As with the "audiophile" recordings, it is often difficult for me to separate the sound, per se, from "the way it sounds to me", in terms of content. Also, IMO, even the best "sound" cannot rescue a poor score/performance/recording/mix/processing/co...

I think that any line level tube stage can be every much of an expressive tool as any other device in the chain. I am also not sure that the biggest difference between digital and analog is the sampling process. How "transparent" is a cutting lathe or...

OK, Petar, I was finally able to take some time yesterday to focus and meditate on this. I remembered a host of "old" drivers from my past (not old at the time...) that, if memory serves, sounded rather muffled and slow, with humped response, as "he...

I've been searching the net looking for some music cataloguing software that allows as much as possible of the following features:- It can look for CD data online avoiding extensive typing of information. I know, there's no such thing for L...
Without any particular order: Gieseking with Barbirolli in 1939 is a phenomenal performance. Mistakably did not listen it for a long time as I was confusing it with the horrible Mengelberg–Gieseking performance of the same ...

The WHRB announced that in their November-December, 2007 program they stat a new series: “Overlooked Cello Repertoire.” God bless WHRB!!!

This LossLess idea do sound interesting…. if it works…
Do you know of other renditions of this work worth the purchase?
This concerto is “lucky”, it well-performed and there are many good recordings. Some of my “honorable mentions” would be: Michelangeli with anybody else...

Amir. for me. regardless of what I've started out to do in audio, I have been forced to compromise along the way. I am sharing my speaker/amp compromises in this thread. My "second system" is a radio (or computer) and headphones (or "desk speakers")....
The sound during bad electricity days is all about noise, all imaginable noise; it is like fog, dull everything into some kind of universal grayness. The colors are dirty, the upper mid and HF are literary dirty, the HF ar...

The Danley idea - or something quite like it - does look good for LF, but maybe less good for MF and up, I think.Which takes me back to the whole "point" of the imaginary "single driver"...Effing around with mix-n-match "systems" back in the day...

Stefano, I do not exactly follow what you tried to say but it is OK. We do need to understand that we do when we are talking about Goto or any other driver manufactures. It is absolutely not know what the hell sound comes in your drivers. I hardly be...

I, in my stupid imagination, thought that I will be able to close my R&E saga as I thought I found a truly wonderful new home for myself. The palace turned out to be grossly, I would say fraudulently, misspresented. Got home very disappointed an...

Hi Panos,Romy asked me for a sanity check on your stated performance limits for your SE OPT's. It is good to see someone paying some attention to what is in the Radiotron Designers Handbook for high performance coils. What you are doing, winding five...

Well, I would like do not mislead myself and others: the Injection Channel idea is NOT perfect and in a way a half-ass solution. It is effective. If the right “coloration driver” is found and properly implemented/mixed then the Injection idea might b...

I am not a person who understands a lot about tuners. I understand a lot about sound and in the tuner world I am just a user of the things. If I need comprehension of the things I ask questions, I have very limited ability to extrapolate the sound of...

Dear Cat, I own tube and SS tuners, and the ones I own now follow a list of other tuners I have owned over the past few years. My SS tuner is an Accuphase T-100. My tube tuners are a Sherwood S-3000V and a Mac MR-67. The difference between a good tub...

It is hard to explain but it is different. When I sit in my chair and play something then there is a very distinct deference between the events when I play Bruckner and non Bruckner. In fact I think I listen differently Bruckner and non-Bruckner musi...

I have a box set of Günter Wand conducts his North German Radio SO with 4 Brahms symphonies. It is celebrated recording from beginning of 80s. I like it but it always sound to me like play critical mass of Brahms without any finesse-Brahms. My versio...

Andy, when I said I am not set up to exploit internet "music", I meant just that; I cannot and therefore did not run your samples through my main payback system, although even that might or might not have done justice to your samp...

Romy, the first time that I noticed that the speaker wires are very important to the sound was when Steve put some very expensive audiophile wires in place of our normal magnet wire. I walked into the room while familiar musi...

From a tape of a live performance radio broadcast, 1943; Unicorn, UNI 107I think I remember another thread with impassioned references to this concerto, but I could not find it. Anyway, I was thinking that perhaps this post should be merged wit...

Hi Romy and Company:
My CD player has seen better days so I did some research and though you might be interested in my experience with the "Music server" concept. Punchline: fun, sounds great and is very convenient!

Like I said in several tuner/antenna threads here, I have never had good classical FM/programming to tune in to, anywhere I've ever lived. And my travels suggest that your good times in Boston were an exception, versus the usual fare in other metrop...
